Everyone has a different process. Each person needs to find what work best for them. With that I found a process that seems to work and has some things to consider that are important for both you and the client.
Discovery: Conduct a questionnaire or interview with the client to get the design details.
Reference: Conduct research into logo designs that have been successful and current styles and trends that may be related to the design brief.
Sketching & Conceptualizing: Develop the logo design concept(s) around the brief and research.
Reflection: Take breaks throughout the design process. This lets your ideas mature and helps you get renewed enthusiasm. Receive feedback.
Positioning: Position yourself so you can guide the client to the best solution. YOu want the client to be happy but sometimes clients need to be told what looks good and bad. You are the professional.
Presentation: Choose only a select few logos to present to the client. Presenting only the best is recommended.
